Star Trek is one of those series that is so well known and influential on all pop culture that I already felt like I knew what it was all about. Like yeah, that space communist show that basically birthed the entirety of modern fandom culture, the one with the bowlcut man and the Patrick Steward memes.

I could not have been more wrong.

The pop culture characterization of Spock is absolutely bafflingly inaccurate. I fully expected Spock to be Sheldon Cooper levels of aloofness and self-righteousness. Literally all referential pop culture is like "Spock is so rational, he's a hauty big brained genius who is actively cold and cruel because he doesn't care about other people and their emotions". I can only imagine this comes from only knowing Spock from being described by someone who is at least three steps removed from someone who watched the show, because it is so far from the actual character.
